Welcome
to Edible Garden Ltd
June 2009
A long weekend is ahead and for me this means a busy few months gets even busier as we get ready to start dispatching trees towards the end of the month. We have had a massive reponse to the April 2009 catalogue and thank you everyone who is going to plant "Edibles" this winter. You can start preparing the ground now if you want, please see the hints and tips "pruning and planting guide" if you would like some more information. Check out the Updates and Specials as we have been able to source some fabulous Heritage apples that missed the catalogue. These include the wonderful "Hetlina" said to have similiar flavournoid properties to Montys Surprise. Also listed are Mother, Winter Banana to mention just a few. See April issue of NZ Gardener for descriptions of these wonderful apples.
I plan to spend some time in the garden this weekend as I have a cover crop in my veggie garden and its not a planned one (yes its a fine crop of weeds!!!) I hope to get some brassicas in before it is to late and also some celery. I have to plant broccoli as Charlie (1) is eating a massive amount at the moment. Tom (5) is disgusted by his little brothers behaviour!!. Holly and I are delighted to find the mandarins are just ripening, despite its complete lack of care my Satsuma mandarin is covered (Yum). I put this down not to good mangment but to the wet weather in February that provided much needed water as the fruit developed. We are just eating the last of the Keifer pears, it is said that it can be stored for up to 6 months but we always eat ours before that can happen. Persimmons are looking stunning at the moment they really are one of autumns most amazing sights, like an autumn christmas tree with all those lovely orange baubles.
Have a great weekend and keep warm.
January 2009
Another very busy year has passed for Edible Garden Ltd not only with the business, all "Edibles" seem to be on the rise and long may this trend continue as its good for the planet and the people.
On the home front 2008 was very busy as a couple of days after I got the catalogues sent out our 3rd baby "Charlie" was born. A very exciting and busy time for us all. He is a delight and such a beautiful addition to our family. As I write this he is now 9 months old and trying very hard to crawl. Holly and Tom adore him and cant wait to get home from school to cuddle him.
I am currently working on the 2009 catalogue which as always will be sent out in April. If you would like to receie a copy and are not a current customer please email me and I will post you a copy as soon as it is ready. For those of you that have received trees from us in the last 3 years you will automatically receive a copy.
Due to the wonderful trend of people growing more of there own produce their is a huge demand for fruit trees this season and I will do my very best to fulfil orders, those who have pre ordered from 2008 will have priority. With such demand for specific varieties such as apple 'Monty's Surprise' if due to unforseen circumstances we cannot supply all I will ration the trees so at least everyone gets a "Taste" so to speak. I feel this is only fair, but I will do my very best to supply.
If you wish to pre order please use the 2008 catalogue as a guide and in April order confirmations will be posted out with catalogues. At this stage we request a 25% deposit unless you are collecting. Please note I will not be able to hold 2008 prices and price increases will be listed in the 2009 catalogue, this includes pre ordered stock.
please email me if you would like a list of what stock we have available in containers for immediate dispatch. Mostly small fruit, raspberry, passionfruit, pepinos, orangeberry, elderberry, boysenberry, feijoas etc
Enjoy the start of the wonderful harvest season, I have great pear crops coming on and have just harvested Damson and Black Doris Plums with the Prune Stanley nearly ready and some lovely Captain kidd and Bramley apples coming on.
I will continue with work on the catalogue and we have lots of wonderful additions this coming year, columnar or Ballerina apples, sour cherries, Worcester Berries (available now) and some wonderful Heritage varities of pip and stone fruit.
Enjoy the Summer - Kind Regards Sarah Frater - Edible Garden
