A spreading tree with moderate vigour whose fruit ripen mid season and is self fertile. Make excellent jam, preserve, chutney and pickle. Delicious spiced as a sauce, heated, sieved and flavoured with a liqueur.

DUFFS EARLY JEWEL
An early ripening plum that is ready around Christmas time. A medium sized fruit with red skin and yellow flesh. Duffs Early Jewel is a self-fertile variety and is a good pollinator for other varieties.

ELEPHANT HEART
Very large fruit, red fleshed with red mottled skin. A freestone plum which is upright, vigorous, and ripens in February. A good dessert and bottling variety, that is pollinated by Omega, Santa Rosa and Burbank.

HAWERA
A large, very firm fleshed plum, with very dark red skin and flesh. Probably our best blood red plum. A high quality dessert variety. Ripening January (15-20). Appears to be self fertile but Santa Rosa may assist pollination. A seedling, which originated from the side of the road in Hawera, Taranaki.

KERERU GOLD
A medium sized freestone plum with yellow flesh and skin, ripening in mid February. When the plum is ripe it halves beautifully and the stones pop out easily, making it good for jam and also bottles well looking lovely and golden in the jars. A vigorous upright tree, bearing huge crops of fruit.

This tree was sent to Harrion’s Trees in 1994 by Mr Gordon Neilson and placed in the organic trial area for evaluation. Since coming into production it has had huge crops of fruit. The annual visit by the Manawatu Tree Crops Assc. to the trial area has prompted Harriosn’s Trees to propagate this for keen home gardener as it was much admired and tasted by the group. Another group of visitors to the trial area the Kereru or native wood pigeon, have also been very partial to the fruit. No need to worry about the Kereru’s interest in this plum as the tree produces plenty to share !!!

LUISA
Luisa is a chance seedling arising in Hamilton. Very large, yellow flesh and skin, virtually freestone. Unusual shape, similar to a mango. Exceptional eating quality with a sweet aromatic flavour and fine texture, very juicy. Luisa is very grower friendly in terms of pollination, cultivation and disease hardiness, so can be readily grown organically. Ripens late January to Early February. Self-fertile.
ROYALTY INCLUDED.

PURPLE KING
A large late season plum. Purplish skin, yellow orange flesh. A great dessert plum and has a greater tolerance of bacterial diseases than most plums. Pollinated by Elephant Heart, Sultan, Duffs Early Jewel and Cherry Plums.

REINE CLAUDE du BAVAY
Originating in France from the popular English Greengage. In spite of being green when ripe, one of the sweetest plums in existence. Ripens late in the season, is medium in size and has yellow green skin and flesh.

SANTA ROSA
A medium sized plum produced on a tree with upright growth habit. It has yellow flesh and pinkish-red skin with an aromatic flavour. A self-fertile variety, but pollination may be assisted by using Omega and Duffs Early Jewel.

SULTAN
A large oval red fleshed plum with soft and juicy blood-red flesh when ripe. Ripens in mid January. A low spreading tree, which crops young and heavily. A self-fertile variety which is ideal for the home garden.

DUAL PLUM
One tree but Two fantastic varieties

BILLINGTON / BLACK DORIS

  • Billington - A plum with dark red skin and flesh is good for eating and jam making. The fruit ripen in early January.
  • Black Doris - Medium to large fruit, ready in late January. It has black skin and dark red flesh Excellent for dessert and bottling

REINE CLAUDE du BAVAY / COE’S GOLDEN DROP

  • Reine Claude du Bavay – Popular Greengage plum, green when ripe, and very sweet.
  • Coe’s Golden Drop – A yellow Gage, late season, medium to small size. Yellow skin and flesh.
We regret due to the growth pattern of the Greengage (Reine Claude du Bavay) we will no longer offer these 2 varieties as a dual tree. The Grrengage is to vigorous and over shadows the Coes Golden Drop even with careful managment so I regret we have decided that we will longer offer this plum combination. We still offer these 2 trees seperately and in our opinion this is the best way to grow them.
