Grapes

Plant grapes in a sunny, sheltered position free from late spring frosts.

ALBANY SURPRISE
Good crops of large mild Lubrusca flavoured juicy black berries with a jelly texture. A hardy variety that ripens mid to late in the season.

CANADICE
Moderate to heavy crops of medium red fleshy thin skinned berries in medium shouldered bunches. Excellent mild Lubrusca flavour. A mid season variety, disease resistant.

IIONA
A small sweet grape of Lubrusca type, good crops of medium pink jelly red berries hanging in loose bunches. Ripens in late February and has reliable crops.

NEW YORK MUSCAT
Good crops of medium red/black berries in loose bunches. Plesant Muscat Flavour with a jelly texture. Early to mid season. Hardy. Not Available in 2009

PINOT MEUNIER
A very early, and hardy red wine grape which may be relied on in all seasons. May be picked in March and wine matures by Christmas. The variety is distinguished by having woolly white fur on the leaf, which is attractive, and making it a little more frost hardy.

ROBINSON
A black outdoor table grape raised in Palmerston North presumably of a Hamburg type. Fruits very successfully and ripens well, fruiting twice.

SCHUYLER
A regular cropping outdoor, table grape that bears from the first season. Clusters of medium to large berries, jet-black with heavy bloom. Flavour neutral pleasant. Early ripening.

URBANA
Good crops of large cherry red berries. The fruit is thick skinned with a jelly texture and an exquisite Lubrusca flavour. A vigorous and disease resistant late season variety.
