Gooseberry
Prefer a cool climate, well-drained soil. The first pruning will
occur in mid summer when all side shoots appearing off the main
stem should be shortened back to about 5 leaves. This encourages
fruit buds to form and should occur every summer after harvest.
INVICTA
All the old varieties have succumbed to powdery mildew, So this
resistant variety is welcomed. Berries are veined, semi-transparent
green tending to yellow when they are ripe. The more upright variety
makes for easier picking. Fruit ripen in December. Grows to 1 metre.
PAX
A new variety showing good disaeas resistance. A more upright variety
than invicta and almost thornless. A heavy cropping bush with red
berries. The ripe fruit have an excellent flavor when eaten fresh.
