Cherry
Cherries are grown on Colt rootstock. Mature height 4-5m. Cherries
prefer a loamy soil and good drainage is necessary, as is a sheltered
site in full sun.
BING
Bing originated in Oregon, USA in 1875. A high quality cherry with
beautiful flavour, acidity and crunch. A medium to large size heart
shaped cherry, dark red in colour with an attractive lustre. The
flesh is juicy with firm red flesh. Can be shy bearing in Northern
areas . Pollinator is Stella & Compact Stella.
COMPACT STELLA
Maturing late, around Christmas time. Large dark red fruit. Flesh
is firm, flavour mildly sub-acid. Good, home garden variety. A very
practical cherry to grow due to its small compact size and because
it is self-fertile.
DAWSON
The standard Christmas cherry in N.Z. A dark red skinned, dark fleshed
cherry, maturing in mid to late December. Pollinated by Stella and
Bing. It can be difficult to crop in northern regions.
LAPINS
Large dark red firm fruit with good flavour, fruit shows resistance
to cracking and ripens early Jan. Hawkes Bay. A self-fertile variety
with an upright growth habit.
RAINER A large white fleshed mid season cherry.
Excellent eating. Pollinated by Bing and Dawson
ROSANN
An early to mid season ripening cherry. Dark red thick skin with firm flesh. Kidney shaped fruit. Vigorous upright habit, heavy cropper. Pollinator Stella or Compact Stella.
STELLA

TANGSHE
Self-fertile pale pink blossom. Small pale pink cherries with red
cheek ripening late October. A very early fruiting variety. Mature
height 4-5m.
